Reporter fired by Globo begins a new challenge and strengthens support for LGBT+

Fábio Turci says he was subjected to ‘homophobia against straight cis’ for participating in the Gay Parade and speaking out against prejudice

Surprised in early April with his resignation from Globo, where he worked as a reporter and presenter for 20 years, Fábio Turci did not let himself be discouraged.

A little over a month later, he was already on the streets of São Paulo recording interviews for a podcast that will be released soon.

“There were 12 hours of reporting. Not because a boss ordered it (I don’t have a boss anymore!). It was because the report required it,” she said in a post.

The 48-year-old journalist’s agenda was also busy with events on gender and sexual diversity.

He is an activist for the cause. He has already participated in several Gay Parades, such as the one to be held on the 11th in Sao Paulo.

Incidentally, the journalist reported that he lost followers by registering his presence in last year’s edition on a social network.

“These are the people who say ‘homophobia is mimimi’, but also commit homophobia towards straight and cis people,” he commented at the time.

A few days after leaving Globo, he received the title of ambassador of the Mães da Resistência collective, which brings together parents of LGBT people to promote support for their children and try to preserve them from hate crimes.

Turci also participates in public debates on the fight against racism, social actions in needy communities and domestic violence prevention policies.

It is clear what Globo journalism has lost: a competent and charismatic professional in front of the cameras and a citizen engaged in relevant agendas.

Thankfully, good professionals are no longer held hostage to television. They can produce their own content – even with greater freedom and depth – using other platforms.
