Director Carlos Porto de Andrade Jr. dies at the age of 67


He had been hospitalized at the Nove de Julho hospital in São Paulo since last Sunday after suffering a stroke.

director Carlos Porto de Andrade Jr. died early this Friday, the 16th, aged 67, following a Cerebral vascular accident (CVA)which he suffered last Sunday, 11. He was admitted to the Nove de Julho hospital, in São Paulo.




Architect with a master’s degree from FAU-USP, he has worked as a photographer, writer, director and screenwriter for cinema and video. His trajectory began in his childhood, with productions in painting and photography. He started out with 8mm, 16mm and super-8, a caliber he used extensively from 1973 onwards.

Graduated and Master at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of São Paulo. In 1978, he presented the film Architecture of the liein super-8, as his interdisciplinary graduate work.

Between the 70s and 80s he exhibited in Brazil and abroad, representing Brazil at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival in 1982, with the movies full grace AND marine heartsand, the following year, with the film Wish. He has been awarded in four editions of video brazil.

His latest work was the feature film Spring, with numerous national and, above all, international awards. The film was produced by Notable filmsdistributed by O2Play and included Ruth de Souza, Ana Paula Arósio and Marília Gabriela in the cast.

The death of director Carlos Porto de Andrade Jr. was announced in a statement sent by Notábile Filmes. Here is the text in full:

“I have the sad news of the passing of the award-winning filmmaker Carlos Porto de Andrade Jr. who, also in the Super-8 era, represented Brazil twice at the Cannes Film Festival. His latest work was the feature film Primavera, which won several awards national and, above all, international. The film was produced by Notábile Filmes, distributed by O2Play and had an exquisite cast, led by Ruth de Souza, Ana Paula Arósio and Marília Gabriela, among others”.

“The director suffered a stroke from Sunday to Monday and was admitted to Nove de Julho hospital, where he passed away this morning. His work is part of the MIS and the Spring collection can be seen for rent on all platforms. Carlos Porto de Andrade Jr. would like to be remembered for his work, which still awaits due recognition.”
