A Heavy Legacy: How Alcohol Destroyed Efremov’s Acting Dynasty

Nikolai was born in the marriage of Mikhail Efremov and Evgenia Dobrovolskaya on August 16, 1991. The boy grew up in a bohemian environment and decided to continue his parents’ work – he also wanted to become an actor. Moreover, he started acting as a teenager and made his screen debut in 2004. After graduating from school, the guy entered GITIS to take a course at Alexei Borodin and got a acting degree in 2013.

But after graduation, Nikolai’s acting career neither trembled nor rolled: at first he began to act actively, in the manner and not in the top-rated projects, but then the breaks between films began to drag on longer and longer.

It was said that Efremov Jr. repeats the fate of his famous parents – and, alas, not in terms of popularity and cult roles. Nicolas couldn’t resist the alcohol.

But almost all male representatives of the Efremov dynasty fought with the green snake.

Legendary Soviet actor Oleg Yefremov, Nikolai’s grandfather, also liked to drink. So, Alexander Shirvindt recalled that he periodically received calls from the Sovremennik Theater at night and went to calm the furious Oleg Efremov, who, as a rule, was held in place by several people. After drinking, Efremov could become violent and even kick cars. He could not get rid of alcoholism even when health problems began – he just tried to reduce the doses.

Nikolai’s father, Mikhail Efremov, also drank without measure and even got drunk while driving. One of these trips ended tragically. Efremov staged an accident, as a result of which the driver-courier Sergey Zakharov died. The actor was eventually sentenced to 7.5 years in prison and is currently serving a sentence.

Against this background, it seems that Mikhail’s other son, Nikita Efremov, is doing well. He actively starred in popular films and TV shows, and he was not seen in major scandals. However, the bad family fate did not overtake him. Nikita admitted that he also had alcohol problems.

“I drank too much alcohol for a long time. When I realized the existence of this problem and first admitted it to you, it became easier to fight the disease. Unfortunately, the alcoholism in Russia is a big problem and we need to talk about it openly,” said Nikita Efremov.
