Pele’s sons agree that the idol’s former stepdaughter is recognized as the heir

Gemima McMahon was raised by the former player from the age of 3 and asked Justice to be declared a loving daughter

Pelé’s inventory is managed with the utmost discretion at the 2nd Family Court of Santos (SP). The family sets an example by discussing inheritance issues without leaking anything to the press.

The memory and image of the eternal star, who died of cancer at the age of 82 in December last year, are being respected.

Despite the pact of silence between members of the Nascimento clan, Sala de TV found that Pelé’s biological children – Edinho, who is the executor, Kely, Jennifer, Flávia, Joshua and Celeste – agreed with the acknowledgment by Gemima McMahon as daughter and heiress.

She was born from her first relationship with Assíria Lemos, whom the player married in 1994. At the time, the girl was 3 years old and she started having him as a paternal reference. The then-couple had twin boys Joshua and Celeste.

Gemima does not appear in the will left by the idol. Supported by her mother, she has decided to claim in court the right to a part of the inheritance due to the socio-emotional bond. The separation of Pelé and Assíria, in 2008, has not affected the relationship between him and the ‘daughter of the heart’.

The support of biological children is precious for the probate judge to give a sentence in Gemima’s favour. Article 1593 of the civil code provides that “the kinship is natural or civil, depending on whether it derives from consanguinity or from other origins”. The family awaits the decision.

The other heirs named in the will are his widow, Márcia Aoki, and the former player’s two grandsons, Gabriel and Octávio, sons of Sandra Regina, who managed to be recognized in court as Pelé’s biological daughter. She died of cancer in 2006.
