Office Romance, Two Kids, and Betrayal: The Marriage Story of Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied

As soon as the spouses celebrated the 10th wedding anniversary, problems began in family life, but how well everything started.

Natalie and Benjamin met on the set of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan in 2009. Portman played the lead role of ballerina Nina, who slowly goes crazy during the production of Swan Lake, while Millepied, then lead singer of New York City Ballet, choreographed the film.

The movie itself is pretty dark, but for Natalie and Benjamin, a whole different vibe reigned on set.

“I felt like I was in a dreamland. Everything was so beautiful…” Portman recalled of meeting her future husband.

Although they immediately liked each other, according to Natalie, there was no love at first sight – at least on her part.

“I already knew him well when it struck me, ‘Oh, yeah, he’s the same man,'” she shared.

Still, their romance developed quickly. When Portman received an Oscar for her role in Black Swan in February 2011, she and Millepied were already engaged and expecting their first child.

A few years later, Natalie and Benjamin would work together again on the set of the film Vox Lux, where Portman played fictional pop star Celeste Montgomery. Millepied once again staged dance numbers, and the actress was thrilled to work with her husband.

Insiders noted that Natalie’s first pregnancy was a surprise for both, but obviously pleasant. Millepied immediately proposed to his beloved, and in August 2012 they were married in California. Their son Aleph was then already a year old. In 2017, the couple again became parents – their daughter Amalia was born.

The marriage seems to have completely changed the priorities of Portman, who has been acting since his teenage years. Now in an interview, the actress stressed that she wants to focus more on family life.

“There is nothing more important than my personal life. It is what comes first to me and always makes sense. Compared to the happiness of a prosperous family life, everything else is superficial.

Portman and Millepied had already firmly entered the list of the strongest couples in Hollywood and seemed to be a model of family harmony forever, when, like a thunderclap in June 2023, the news broke that Benjamin had cheated on Natalie . The choreographer’s mistress was 25-year-old French activist Camille Etienne.

Insiders reported that Natalie felt “humiliated” because her husband cheated on her with a younger woman.

However, according to sources, Portman was determined to step over her hurt pride and give the marriage a second chance.

“Natalie thinks Benjamin’s adventure was a short, silly story that meant nothing to him. She wants to see if she can regain her trust in him.”

Alas, such enthusiasm was, it seems, only she had. Paparazzi photos, taken shortly after a family quarrel, left no one indifferent. In the photos, Natalie was sobbing, and Benjamin sat next to him on a bench and looked completely indifferent – he didn’t even try to console his wife.

After a few months, Portman seems to have realized that she had no reason to fight. On the day of the wedding anniversary, the actress appeared in public without a wedding ring. And a few days later it became known that the couple had decided to divorce.
