Several artists have mourned the death of theater director Aderbal Freire-Filho, this Wednesday 9, at the age of 82. The actor and presenter was also hospitalized at Copa Star Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro. He has suffered from health complications since he suffered a stroke in 2020.

“We are no longer orphaned, but forever inspired! Thank you kind and wise prince of our platforms,” ​​wrote actor Matheus Naschtergaele, in an Instagram posting.

Actress Marieta Severo, to whom Freire-Filho was married, has yet to publicly comment on the loss. The two had been together for 20 years and lived in separate houses until the principal’s stroke. In 2020 he moved to Marieta’s house to be entrusted to the care of the actress.

He was known for his daring montages. At the age of 13 he began playing in amateur groups in Fortaleza (CE), his hometown. The artist also graduated in law, but did not practice his profession. In 1970, he made his acting debut in Nikolai Gogol’s Diary of a Madman. The show was staged on a bus that traveled the streets of the capital Rio de Janeiro.

In 1973, the director was responsible for the creation of the Brazilian Drama Guild, which gave rise to plays such as “A visitor from above”, by Roberto Athayde, and “New Year’s Eve”, by Flávio Márcio.

He was also a professor at the renowned Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras drama school, at the Martins Pena Theater School and at the Faculty of Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
