Nando Reis has a successful career in music, but one of his biggest struggles has been with alcohol and drugs, which he overcame seven years ago. The artist’s family lived with addiction. Sebastião Reis, 28, one of the singer’s sons, recalled his father’s difficult phase.

“It was hard to see him hostage to an addiction. I was always by his side in those moments. He’s been sober for a few years. In a way, watching him go through this has taught me to keep my distance from cocaine and alcohol,” she said. said Sebastião The See SP.

In a recent interview with Piaui, Nando said he still wants to drink, but has now managed to regain sobriety.

“I’m an alcoholic, but I’ve regained my sobriety. My journey with alcohol began in my teens and gradually became abusive use and addiction. I started drinking at 13 and only stopped at 53. There it was decades of heavy use and, over time, associated with cocaine. I’ve been sober for almost seven years, but I haven’t stopped being an alcoholic: I feel the compulsion inside me”.

In October 2016, he found himself hitting rock bottom after a trip to Seattle, USA, and that was the pinnacle for the singer to change course.

“There was no cocaine there, so I dove headlong into alcohol. I just couldn’t stop drinking. It was the first time I’d woken up in the middle of the night feeling the need to drink alcohol. That situation. Vânia (ex – wife) no longer spoke to me, my children no longer wanted to know about me, I had alienated the dearest and most important people in my life (…) From Seattle, I called my psychiatrist and he said: ‘For God’s sake, take me to the hospital, I have to stop drinking.’ Then I started attending an AA group in the neighborhood where I live in São Paulo”.

Sebastião, who has a band, Colomy, is touring Australia with his father: “Being his father brings ease and, at the same time, prejudices and comparisons,” said the young artist.
