Singer Preta Gil spoke for the first time after undergoing two simultaneous surgeries, one to remove a tumor in her rectum and another for a total abdominal hysterectomy. The complex procedure, which lasted 14 hours, was performed at the Sírio-Libanês hospital last Wednesday (16/8).
On his social networks, Preta confirmed that the healing is taking place gradually and thanked the medical team: “Hello, my loves, I’m here recovering from a long and complex surgery that lasted more than 14 hours, where the tumor was removed ,as I also had to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy. I am well cared for by the doctors. Special thanks to the entire team of warriors at Dr. Frederico Teixeira Jr. Now it’s one day at a time!!! Today I was able to sit down and I’m still here fighting. Yeah god it’s good!!!” he wrote.
After the operation, Preta Gil will spend some time using a colostomy bag. He had already talked about it in an interview with Ana Maria Braga. “I’m going to have to use a colostomy bag, I’m going to have an operation on my rectum, so I have to let it heal. We have a lot of these monsters: oh my god, the pouch. But the doctors let me see what it’s like, how it works. For everything in life we have a solution, we must remain optimistic”.
Treatment started with chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Preta Gil started cancer treatment in January this year. The first stage was chemotherapy, during which the singer chose to stay in the hospital. In April, the doctors decided to stop chemotherapy and start radiation therapy. These first two steps were aimed at shrinking the tumor to make the surgery easier.
Bowel cancer awareness
In March, Preta Gil took to her social networks to talk about the Blue March, an appointment to raise awareness of bowel cancer. He stressed the importance of early diagnosis and prevention: “Often, we leave our personal commitments before our own health and do not see the signs of our body that all is well. Also, a healthier diet and exercise practice I am always recommended for this prevention”.
