If Emma Watson was a debutante, then Hattie Jones, at the time of the casting which began in 1999, had already managed to light up on the screen and charm the audience in the comedy Madeleine, which was released a year earlier. There, at the age of 10, she plays the main role – a little orphan who fights against the closure of a girls’ school, but is coincidentally kidnapped with the son of the ambassador, which leads to a series of adventures.

“I was perfect for this role. I was such a confident, drama-loving kid. My parents were the complete opposite, but they let me audition thinking I was just going to have a good time. They didn’t expect me to get the part.”Hattie remembers.

It is not surprising that during the casting of “Harry Potter” the young actress managed to attract the attention of the producers and finally reached the final, when she and Emma Watson were alone among the contenders. The choice, of course, was difficult, but in the end the creators gave preference to Emma – and, as we know, they certainly did not lose. Watson also impressed the producers with her confidence during the audition, so we think it was a fair fight between the two young actresses. But Hattie was two years older than Emma, ​​and the filmmakers thought she might be too old for the part.

Although Jones enjoyed acting in films, she didn’t pursue her career as a child, admitting that she just didn’t really want to play the roles she auditioned for after Harry Potter.

As a result, the actress for a long time disappeared from sight. In 2010, she trained as an actor at the Mountview Academy of Theater Arts, but she no longer managed to become a real movie star, mainly playing in small roles in television shows.
