According to information from the Ministry of Health, the stoma is a “surgical procedure that consists in externalizing the system (digestive, respiratory and urinary), creating an external orifice called stoma”.
“Intestinal ostomies (colostomy and ileostomy) – are surgical operations performed both in the colon (large intestine) and in the small intestine and consist in the externalization of an intestinal segment, through the abdominal wall, thus creating an artificial opening for the escape of fecal contents.
