YouTuber Felipe Neto exposed in an interview on the PodPah podcast this Tuesday (10/10) the emotional weight and consequences of taking a political position against Jair Bolsonaro. Since 2018, when he began criticizing the then presidential candidate, Neto has faced threats that led him to remove his mother from Brazil and hire intelligence services to monitor risks to her physical integrity.
The digital influencer explained that he even has an escape plan. “I have the security intelligence, it’s not just physical security. I have the intelligence to be able to map whether someone is planning something serious, whether someone is planning an execution,” she said.
Emotion and fear
Felipe has become one of the main targets of far-right attacks on social media, especially after supporting Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva’s candidacy in the 2022 elections. “I’ve gone through things that no human being should go through. Being called anything I went through, death threats, I had to take my mother out of the country. I miss walking down the street without security, because people who don’t agree with me accept it. But that’s not going to happen,” he reported.
He lamented political polarization that prevents healthy debate on social media. “I wanted people to be able to react. When I saw it, I was getting shot from all sides. This was in 2018, and it never stopped.”
Moved, he said during the interview that he lost the right to live without fear after deciding to speak out politically. “I miss not being afraid. I went to Portugal and I was able to see, after almost five years, what it means to live without fear,” he said.
Trials and accusations
During Bolsonaro’s government, Neto faced legal proceedings for corruption of minors, due to the use of vulgar language in old videos, and for crimes against national security, after criticizing the then president. “They tried to arrest me for a crime against national security, when I swore at the president, then I also responded for a state criminal case… The two [processos] In criminal matters, if I lose, I’m in prison,” he explained.
He laughed awkwardly: “I didn’t imagine that I would get emotional. It’s been almost 5 years and people mix a lot of things. When I entered this social and political movement, I didn’t imagine that this would happen. I imagined that the artistic classes would reunited. And that didn’t happen.”
