Remember the case

Ana Clara Benevides’ death occurred during the first of three Taylor Swift shows held at Nilton Santos Stadium, Engenhão, in Rio, on the 17th, characterized by complaints of intense heat and a thermal sensation of 60ºC in some places. Water became a scarce and disputed commodity among the public present.

A preliminary report showed that Ana suffered a pulmonary hemorrhage during the show. The condition, however, cannot be considered the cause of the young woman’s death. New tests have been performed and results should be delivered in approximately 30 days.

After the death of Ana Clara Benevides and reports from fans, the Consumer Police (Decon) opened an investigation to investigate the conduct of Time for Fun (T4F), the company that produced Taylor Swift’s shows in Brazil. The agency will investigate the crime of danger to life or health.

In a statement, T4F specifies that “its representatives are collaborating with the authorities and remain available for any clarifications”. Serafim Abreu, CEO of Time For Fun, also spoke about the facts six days after the accident. The delay was criticized by the singer’s fans.

“We recognize that we could have taken some alternative actions, in addition to all the others we have done, such as, for example, creating shaded areas in outdoor areas, modifying the times of previously scheduled shows and placing more emphasis on allowing entrance with disposable water cups,” Abreu said, in a video address.

After Ana’s death, the stadium’s water entry policies were changed and the shows were also scheduled to start an hour later. Justice Minister Flávio Dino said the federal government would investigate the lack of drinking water during the American singer’s performance in Rio.

Last Wednesday, the 22nd, Ana Clara Benevides received a special tribute in Times Square, New York, after a mobilization of Taylor Swift fans. The video contained a photo of Ana with the following message: “This is a tribute from all the fans who were at the show in Rio de Janeiro. You were bigger than the whole sky.”

The family of Ana Clara Benevides attended the show held by singer Taylor Swift on Sunday 26th, at Allianz Parque, in Sao Paulo. Among those present were the young woman’s father, José Weiny Machado, and her friend who accompanied her to the Rio show, Daniele Menin.

The image published by journalist José Norberto Flesch shows that the victim’s family and friends also went to the stage and met Taylor Swift, who welcomed them with one of the tour’s costumes The Turn of the Ages. No information was disclosed about who took the initiative to invite them. Everyone wore T-shirts with Ana’s photo on them.
