Cafu Mansion is auctioned for R$25 million; see photos

The villa owned by former player Cafu, given as collateral for debts with banks and financial institutions, was put up for auction for R$25 million, according to the Estadao. The property is located in Alphaville, in the municipality of Barueri, and is valued at R$27.4 million.

The former athlete’s lawyer, Ricardo Sewaybrick, told the newspaper that he believes the auction was illegal. According to the lawyer, the parties involved in the process reached an agreement which provided for the sale of the property at public auction, a specific judicial sale for the payment of the debt. Furthermore, the judge’s ruling stipulated a minimum auction value of R$35 million.

“This auction [de R$ 25 milhões] it was absolutely illegal. We won’t even appeal because the judge didn’t approve it,” Sewaybrick said.

In a document obtained by the newspaper, the auctioneer said he could not auction the villa for the minimum value of R$35 million and asked the judge to approve the value of R$25 million.

By 2022, Cafu’s debts were estimated at R$11 million. In August this year, the two-time world champion explained his debts and denied being “broke”.

“I went to help a big businessman here in São Paulo. I lent him my image, I lent him some things, and in the end I generated this debt because I trusted this person. The debt generated an avalanche.
