Ben Stiller meets the President of Ukraine: “My Hero”

Actor Ben Stiller (“Zoolander”) met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky this Monday (20/6) in Kiev. He is in the country as an ambassador for UNHCR, the UN refugee committee, and spoke with the president after visiting settlements of Ukrainians displaced by war in a region of the capital.

Zelensky posted a video of the meeting on his social media, in which the two greeted each other warmly before sitting down to discuss the plight of the country’s refugees, displaced across Europe due to the invasion and attacks by Russian troops in the region.

“You are my hero!” Stiller said during the visit, made on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

Stiller was joined by UNHCR’s representative in Ukraine, Karolina Lindholm Billing, who also took the actor to visit the dilapidated residential areas of Irpin, where they spoke to survivors of the occupation.

“It’s one thing to see this destruction on TV or on social media. It’s another to see it with your own eyes. It’s much more shocking,” Stiller told Zelensky. “What you saw in Irpin is downright terrible. In the conversation, Zelensky also highlighted the violation of the rights of Ukrainians forcibly deported to Russia, including children.
