Britney Spears’ father wants the singer to testify about guardianship again

Jamie Spears’ lawyers alleged that Britney made “incendiary statements” in social media posts about the case.

Singer Britney Spears is now free from the tutelage of her father, Jamie Spears, but the case has not yet been closed. According to documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Jamie wants the artist to return to court to testify.

The request comes after the revelation that Britney is writing a biography that will talk about the times she lived under guardianship.

As revealed by the Page Six website in February, the singer will receive a sum of approximately $ 15 million to write the book, the equivalent of R $ 77 million at the current price.

The amount was used as a justification by his father’s lawyers for the artist to return to “emotionally difficult matters”. According to them, Britney has already made statements about the case in the posts she posted on Instagram and, for this reason, she would be able to testify.

“That Britney can speak openly about the issues she raises publicly (including winning a check for $ 15 million) but that she is suddenly” unduly burdened “by her lawyer’s litigation is ridiculous,” reads an excerpt from the documents.

Lawyers also accused the singer of making “incendiary and unfounded statements” against Jamie. In April, Britney had published an already deleted publication on her biography and she talked about her 13 years in which she had been in the tutelage of her father.

Coroners also allege Jamie offered to testify multiple times and demanded that his and his daughter’s statements be scheduled for the same week to “be correct.” Britney’s lawyer, however, disagreed.

The motion was set for July 13.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Jamie’s request comes a month after a motion was opened by the singer’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, asking for a statement from him.

Matthew stated that several dates had been offered for the declaration, but the man did not accept and did not propose others. Additionally, according to the attorney, Britney’s legal team suggested that the deposition be held in Los Angeles, Louisiana or “any other city with adequate facilities,” but received no response from Jamie’s attorneys.

In the years she was in the care of her father, the singer did not have the right to manage her money, have another child, travel abroad, go to a restaurant alone, among other impediments.

Britney fans started the movement #FreeBritney, which caused the case to have wide repercussions. In 2021, American Justice established full freedom of the artist.
