Marcius Melhem’s action against Dani Calabresa is considered “unfounded” by the courts; understand

The Court of Justice of São Paulo deemed the appeal brought by “unfounded”. Marcio Melhem against Daniele Calabresa. The comedian, accused by the actress of sexual harassment, asked for compensation for moral and material damages, as well as a public retraction.

Melhem claims Calabresa made false accusations against him and says he shared information that would damage his former colleague’s image. The judge in the case, however, found that the comedian had not played an active role in disclosing the facts and, therefore, did not have to compensate Melhem.

Understand the case

In 2019, the first allegations of sexual harassment against the comedian emerged, which he denied. In March 2020, Melhem stepped away Globe for about four months with the justification of monitoring her daughter’s health care.

In the same year, however, the broadcaster announced the actor’s resignation, not to mention the complaints, which would have aroused indignation among the artists who followed the case. In December 2020, the magazine Piauí collected the statements of 43 people, including victims and witnesses, providing new details on the case and the alleged harassment committed against Dani Calabresa.

In August 2023, Melhem became a defendant for sexual harassment against three victims. As informed by the Public Prosecutor of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) al Estadaothe crime would have been committed “continuously” against the three complainants.

The investigation which saw Calabresa and five other women as victims was closed “due to punitive prescription of the facts”, according to the Public Prosecutor.
