The actor Richard Lewis has died on the night of Tuesday 27th, in Los Angeles, at the age of 76. The cause of his death was a heart attack, according to the American magazine Variety.

Lewis starred in the comedy series Hold the wave (Curb your enthusiasm, in the original version), which began in the 2000s and lasted 12 seasons. For 24 years, the actor has brought to life a semi-fictional version of himself during seasons of the series.

In April last year, Lewis announced his retirement from comedy after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He leaves behind his wife Joyce Lapinsky.

HBO, where the series Hold the Wave is available, said it was “heartbroken” at the news of Richard Lewis’ death: “His comedic brilliance, intelligence and talent are unparalleled. Richard will always be a beloved member of the HBO and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” families.
