French actress Isabelle Adjani (“The Story of Adele H.”) has been formally investigated for alleged fraud involving her production company since October 2020. The information comes from the French newspaper Libération.
According to the publication, the investigation stemmed from a complaint filed by a former business partner identified as Sebastien G. The case dates back to 2011, when Adjani hired Sebastien G. as a strategic consultant to help her manage her production company, at Isia Films.
The consultant allegedly obtained a credit line for Adjani and an American Express card on which he would be charged € 364,000 over a 13-month period. The consultant said he was fired days after he got the card back and also pointed out that he lent her € 157,000, which was not paid.
After managing to seize some of Adjani’s assets to pay off debts, he filed a lawsuit accusing him of abusing the company assets. The case was eventually dismissed. But the former employee has not waived the accusation, opening a complaint to the carabinieri in which he accuses the actress of having presented false receipts for the payment of the sum she owed him. The complaint also involves Mimi Marchand, head of the Bestimage news agency, who allegedly helped Adjani produce these pay slips.
Once the formal investigation is complete, a judge will decide whether the case is substantial enough to go to trial.
Two-time Oscar nominee Isabelle Adjani debuts this week in France with the film “Peter von Kant”, directed by François Ozon. The feature can currently be seen in Brazil as part of the Varilux Festival programming.
