Chris Pratt opens up on criticism: “I cried”

Actor Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) vented during an interview with Men’s Health magazine, saying he regrets being seen as a more religious person than he really is.

Pratt was associated with religion in 2019, receiving an award at the MTV Movie Awards. At the time, citing his nine rules, in one of them he highlighted that “God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe it, I believe it.”

“Maybe it was arrogant of me to go up on stage and say the things I said. I’m not sure anyone was moved,” mused the actor, in retrospect.

In the same year, he was accused by Eliot Page of attending a controversial church, Hillsong, which fiercely condemns the LGBTQIA + community. At the time, Pratt replied that the comments “couldn’t be further from the truth”, saying he attends a church “that opens its doors to everyone.”

Now, the actor has claimed he never dated Hillsong, who was also recently involved in sexual abuse allegations.

During the conversation, he tried to reinforce the difference between his faith and the oppression of religions over the centuries.

“Religion has been overwhelming for a long time,” he said. “I didn’t know I was going to somehow become the face of a religion, when in reality I am not even such a religious person. I think there is a big difference between being religious – adhering to man-made customs, often appropriating the ‘spell reserved for what I believe is a very real God – and using religion to control people, take money from people, abuse children, steal land and justify hatred. “

Finally, Pratt revealed that he cried after receiving criticism in the press and on social media for mentioning that his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger gave birth to a healthy baby girl last year. “A lot of articles came out that said, ‘This is so embarrassing. I can’t believe Chris Pratt would have thanked his wife for a healthy daughter when her first child was born premature.’ The actor’s eldest son had a brain hemorrhage, which required special care.

“My son will read this someday. He’s nine. It really bothered me, man. I cried about it,” she said.

The star can be seen in theaters and streaming in two releases in the coming days. Chris Pratt stars in Amazon Prime Video’s “The Terminal List” series, which will be released on July 1, and is featured in Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which hits Brazilian theaters on July 7.
