Anne Hathaway reveals she suffered a miscarriage while performing a monologue

Anne Hathaway surprised fans by revealing that she had a miscarriage in 2015. At the time, the actress was acting To the ground, off-Broadway monologue. The outburst occurred in a recent interview with the magazine Vanity Fair.

Anne had already addressed the issue discreetly when she announced the pregnancy of her second child, Jack, in 2019. At the time she published a black and white photo whose caption read: “For all those who are going through the hell of ‘infertility and conception, please know that I have not had a straight line or linearity to any of my pregnancies.’

Now, in the interview with Vanity Fair, the actress explained her choice of words, saying she felt a lot of sadness trying to get pregnant. “Given the pain I felt trying to get pregnant, it would have been dishonest to post something so happy when I know the story is much more nuanced than that for everyone.”

The actress also revealed that she kept the miscarriage a secret, but that she had always spoken about what happened to her closest friends, behind the scenes of the show. “It was really hard to keep it (a secret) when I was on stage pretending everything was fine.” In the play she starred in, her character was giving birth on stage, which made the process difficult for her.

Anne is the mother of Jonathan, four, and Jack, four, from her marriage to actor Adam Shulman.
