Princess Diana had several nicknames. In addition to the most famous – the Queen of Hearts – there was another thing: she was called the Sad Princess. Indeed, even in public, Lady Dee could hardly hide her anguish and dejection due to a failed marriage.

Although, of course, she wasn’t always sad. Diana diligently followed royal protocol (for which Meghan Markle is now blamed), but she sometimes allowed herself to goof around, going from a reserved snow queen to a mischievous thug.

The funniest and most revealing case happened at the races at Royal Ascot. Lady Di was a close friend of Sarah Ferguson (ex-wife of Prince Andrew). Sarah was the complete opposite of Diana – spontaneous, loud, easy-going and completely indifferent to what people thought of her. Although, in some ways, the girls were still similar.

Side by side, friends have forgotten all the rules of decency and royal protocols. And they just had fun like children, which, of course, did not please the royal family.

In 1987 Diana and Sarah attended the races at Royal Ascot. The girls decided to back up the playful mood with a prank: they started shoving their umbrellas into their friend Lulu Blacker’s back. Judging by the photo, the friends were delighted with their own idea. What cannot be said of the public.

For this trick, Lady Dee and Sarah were harshly criticized in the press, and Queen Elizabeth was completely furious. But the deed has already been done. But have fun!
