Roberto Carlos and Maria Rita would have celebrated 28 years of marriage in April. The pedagogue died at the age of 38, of cancer, in 1999, three years after the couple had exchanged vows of love.

The ceremony, which was attended by just 20 guests, took place in the Nossa Senhora do Brasil parish, a few meters from the building where they lived, in Urca, south of Rio.

Opened 90 years ago, the Hispanic Neocolonial-style church was frequented by the artist when he moved to the neighborhood in the early 1980s.

His second wife, actress Myriam Rios (the first was Nice, whom he married in Bolivia), said in interviews that the romantic idol did not go a single Sunday without attending mass.




The wedding of Roberto and Maria Rita, who had already been living together for five years, took place in secret. The press only found out days later.
