Gabriela Prioli remembers her father’s death in an accident: ‘It opened a hole in my heart’

Journalist was only 6 years old when he lost his father in a serious car accident

Gabriela Prioli was the guest of the scheduled day Conversation with Bial, broadcast last Thursday, the 23rd. During her participation, the journalist became emotional remembering the loss of her father, when she was only 6 years old.

According to her, the family was driving back from a farm to Itapecerica da Serra, in Sao Paulo, when they had to stop at a police station – due to a strange noise in the vehicle. “[Meu pai] he went behind the car to get tools and a car lost its steering,” he revealed. “He was crushed against our car and died instantly.”

Asked if she had any memories of what happened, even though she was so young, Gabriela said she has some. “I have memories that my consciousness has modified to avoid some pain,” she pointed out. According to her, the accident was very serious and the people in the other car (which collided with that of her family) also died.

“My mother had to take us out of the car. Then she goes out the window, has to kick down another door, grabs me with one arm, my brother with the other, he was all bloody because he hurt his nose and I hit the head”.

“I was sleeping propped up and woke up with the accident. Even today I have sleep problems,” he adds. “I also talked to my mother, because I remember everything was very quiet and clear, and she said there was a deafening noise.”

Excited, the journalist also remembered the moment she received the news. “That’s the moment I’ll never forget,” she says. “My mother says it was very difficult to take care of dad here, so the doctors had to transfer him to the hospital in paradise. And I remember somewhere thinking, ‘My father died.’ And I automatically say, ‘No,’ hospital of heaven’ is called the hospital’. And my brother, who is four years old, asks: ‘Is he dead, mother?’

“And then a hole opened in my heart that still exists today,” he concluded.
