Neither ‘Bridgerton’ nor ‘The Queen of Tears’: discover the series that dethroned famous titles and was the most watched on Netflix

Netflix published, this Thursday (23), a report on the most viewed content in the world on the platform between July and December last year. Who expected to find original productions, such as “Bridgerton,” which just premiered its third seasonto the at the top of the list, I was surprised to come across a drama.

“Sorriso Real” (or “King the Land”) was the content that totaled the most hours watched in the period on Netflix: 630.2 million, for an average of 39.3 million hours in each of the 16 episodes.

In the ranking of the series with the highest number of views, “Sorriso Real” also did well, appearing in the top 20, with 33.2 million. In the lead is “ONE PIECE: The Series”, with 71 million. But unlike the latterthe drama is not a Netflix production and was originally broadcast on cable channel JTBC.

“Smile Real” has a plot marked by an inheritance dispute. Goo Won (Lee Jun-ho) is the heir to a luxury hotel chain and the protagonist’s life is turned upside down by the hiring of Cheon Sa-rang (Yoon-a). The girl’s constant smile irritates the businessman, who begins to experience very mixed feelings.

It is worth mentioning that, despite the success, there is no expectation for a second season of “Sorriso Real”. All this because, culturally, dramas are thought to be resolved in a single season, with a beginning, a middle and an end, without intervals for a continuation, as often happens in American series.
