Regina Duarte takes action when she receives photos from fans to pay the director for the cause

The actress attacked for her political position does not give up after being convicted for using a photo with the legendary Leila Diniz

On Wednesday evening (5), Regina Duarte used her Instagram profile, where she has 3.2 million followers, to make a statement. “This morning I was surprised by several Pix of different amounts in my personal bank account,” she reported.

“I want to thank you for all your care, affection, attention and concern for me. However, the trial is not over yet and my lawyers continue to work on my defense.”

The actress referred to the court ruling that obliges her to pay compensation of R$74,000 to director Janaína Diniz Guerra. In December 2022, a photo of her with her mother, the legendary Leila Diniz, appeared in a video of Jair Bolsonaro posted by Regina Duarte.

The image came from a street demonstration in 1968 against the censorship imposed by the military dictatorship. In the recording of the speech of the then right-wing president, the message acquired another context: support for the generals’ regime.

The phrases “the women of the street asked for the re-establishment of order” and that “64 was a demand of society” were associated with the photograph in which Leila Diniz is with other actresses who opposed the dictatorship.

Faced with the unexpected amount in her bank account, Regina Duarte decided to promote solidarity action. “I inform you that the entire amount received in my account will be added and donated to continue helping the volunteers of Rio Grande do Sul and the families affected by the rains and floods,” she informed.

At the end of the clarification, the actress – and now also an artist – asked for prayers, good vibrations and positive thoughts to help her face the dispute in court.

On TV, the paths of Regina Duarte and Leila Diniz crossed once and in a curious way. In 1969, the ‘little Brazilian sweetheart’ abandoned the role of Pompon in the soap opera ‘Dez Vidas’, on the now extinct TV Excelsior, irritated by the delay in her salary. She went to Globo to do ‘Véu de Noiva’ while Leila Diniz took over her old role.

Leila would die three years later, at the age of 27, aboard a Japan Airlines plane that crashed while flying over India. The artist was returning from a trip to Australia. At the time, her only daughter, Janaína Diniz Guerra, author of the case against Regina Duarte, was just 7 months old.

Now remembered for the case against Regina Duarte, Leila Diniz was an actress and activist for individual freedoms during the military dictatorship
