The actress left instructions regarding the remains and banned false friends from the funeral

Best known for her role in the series ‘Barred at the Ball,’ Shannen Doherty has swung between resilience and revolt in the final stretch of her life.

Death is the only certainty in life. Yet most of us are reluctant to accept it peacefully. The fear of its arrival causes anguish. It affects both the healthy and the sick. This all-too-human fragility was no different with Shannen Doherty, Brenda in “Barred at the Ball.”

The actress took to her podcast “Let’s be Clear” to address her impending demise. She battled cancer and metastases for nearly a decade until her death at age 53 on Saturday, July 13.

“I want (my remains) mixed with my dog and my father. I don’t want to be buried,” she warned. The artist asked that her ashes be used to grow trees in Malibu, the coastal region where she lived, west of Los Angeles.

Speaking into the microphone, Shannen signaled her desire to not have false friends at her casket. “There are a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there,” she said. “They don’t really like me… they don’t like me enough to show up at my funeral.”

The actress has hinted that people would only attend the farewell ceremony out of media interest or remorse. Over the course of her television career, she has clashed with colleagues, including Jennie Garth, Kelly from “Barred at the Ball” and Alyssa Milano from “Charmed.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, a portal that tracks celebrity wealth, Shannen Doherty owned $5 million (equivalent to R$27 million) in real estate and investments. In the months before her death, she sold properties and named her mother, Rosa Elizabeth, 76, as her primary heir. The actress regretted not having children.

Her last known relationship was with photographer Kurt Iswarienko, from whom she separated in 2023 after 12 years. She cited the discovery of infidelity as a reason for filing for divorce. In the last weeks of her life, she complained about the difficulty of finding a boyfriend who would accept a woman “with an expiration date.”

In late 2023, in an interview with People magazine, Shannen Doherty expressed despair at the approach of death. “I don’t want to die… I’m not done living. I’m not done loving. I’m not done creating things. I’m not done changing things for the better.”

The last photo of the actress in the press was taken on June 16, when she was walking with a friend, real estate agent Chris Cortazzo, near her home. She was undergoing palliative care after cancer that initially affected one breast spread to her brain and some bones.
