Who is the longest? How long did Elizabeth II, Kate and Megan wait for marriage proposals

“Patient Kate” – so nicknamed Middleton due to the fact that she had met Prince William for a long time before hearing the dear “Will you marry me?”. You will be surprised, but Katherine is far from the record holder among representatives of the royal family.

Serious relationships involve serious steps, such as a marriage proposal. But sometimes men are not in a hurry with this item. We tell how things went with the engagement of representatives of the British Royal Family.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip

Who is the longest? How long did Elizabeth II, Kate and Megan wait for marriage proposals

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s love story goes back well beyond the 74 years of their marriage. For the first time, future husband and wife met when Elizabeth was only 8 years old. A new meeting takes place in 1939, shortly before the Second World War: the princess is then 13 years old, but she declares with confidence that she is in love.

Philip, 18, then became a Royal Navy cadet, went to the front and the young people began to exchange letters. After the end of hostilities, lovers began to meet more often, and in 1947 they announced their engagement. So, formally, Elizabeth II waited for a marriage proposal for 2 years – from 1945 to 1947, but their (albeit remote) romance lasted much longer, namely: 8 years (from 1939 to 1947).

On November 20, 1947, Elizabeth and Philip were married. On the same day, the husband of the future queen (and the crown passed to him in 1952) received the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles

Princess Diana became the bride of Prince Charles almost immediately, as the Queen’s son literally betrothed her. In 1980 Charles met Lady Sarah Spencer, and already on July 29, 1981 he married her sister Diana. This marriage was doomed from the start, but poor Lady Di believed she would “endure, fall in love.”

Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles

Charles and Camilla met in 1970, feelings arose between them. In 1973, the queen did everything possible to separate the lovers, then engaged her son to Diana Spencer. Feelings took over and, being married, Camilla and Charles began to meet secretly. And then they didn’t even try to hide it: in 1993 Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced that they were not living together, in 1994 Camilla divorced, in 1996 the Queen’s son decided to divorce .

It would seem to be happiness: you can no longer hide and officially declare your relationship and the upcoming marriage, but in August 1997, Diana dies. The death of the Queen of Hearts hurt millions, and in order not to turn people away from the palace, the Queen did not bless her son to marry Camilla. The lovers had to wait another 8 years.

It wasn’t until 2005 that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles finally became husband and wife. What they dreamed of in the distant 70s, but could not go against the queen’s wishes, has happened. So, Camilla has been waiting for the cherished offer for more than 30 years.

Kate Middleton and Prince William

The relationship between Kate and William began in 2002, when both were barely 20 years old. The prince loved the intelligent and beautiful Katherine, but he was no less attracted to youth parties. In 2004, the tabloids found out about their romance, and the young people faced such pressure that after three years they could not bear it and ran away. Six months later, they got bored and decided to give their relationship a second chance. And not in vain! Three years later, patient Kate was expecting a marriage proposal. And it’s only been 8 years! Think!

Their wedding took place on April 29, 2011. The broadcast of the magnificent celebration was watched all over the world. What a day it was!.. In 2021, the couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Prince Harry has been an idol for a long time. Until I met Meghan Markle in July 2016.

How Meghan Markle and Prince Harry met is fate!

The young people immediately fell in love with each other, and four months later, in November of the same year, the prince introduced his beloved to his grandmother, and then to the whole world. Exactly one year later, in November 2017, Megan and Harry announced their engagement. It turns out that Markle waited for the cherished ring for a short time – a year and four months.

They married in May 2018, and their marriage was in no way inferior to the triumph of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Although in the palace (and throughout England), Megan was received much more coldly … Well, then you know.
