Who is the powerful doctor Kalil, doctor of Preta, Otaviano, Lula and other famous people

Cardiologist treats celebrities and politicians, stands out as a presenter on CNN and has been Batman and the Easter Bunny in social actions

In the public statement announcing the resumption of cancer treatment, Preta Gil stated that he was being treated by the team led by Dr. Roberto Kalil Filho in Sírio-Libanês.

The doctor’s name often appears in the media. In July, he himself appeared in an article in ‘Fantástico’ about the heart surgery that saved the life of presenter Otaviano Costa.

Without making a fuss, Dr. Kalil takes care of the health of a large part of the Brazilian GDP, the leaders of the political class, the socialites and the artists. He is a trusted doctor and friend of President Lula.

In 2015, the politician was the cardiologist’s godfather on the occasion of his wedding to endocrinologist Claudia Cozer. When the PT leader was imprisoned in the PF of Curitiba, Kalil took care of the health of his children and grandchildren.

Also a specialist in general medicine, the doctor is the director of the Sírio-Libanês Cardiology Center. He also holds the presidency of the Board of Directors of the Heart Institute (Incor), linked to the Hospital das Clínicas of the USP Faculty of Medicine (HCFMUSP), where he is a full professor.

A former student of the traditional Dante Alighieri School in São Paulo, Kalil graduated with a medical degree in 1985. He completed his doctorate at USP and his post-doctoral training at the renowned Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

It is known that other hospital networks in the Rio-São Paulo axis have already tried to take him away from Sírio-Libanês with millionaire offers, but the doctor refused. If he had accepted, he would have accepted hundreds of loyal patients.

Introspective at first glance, Dr. Kalil shows his relaxed side when he plays the saxophone, both in the Banda InCordes, formed by health professionals who play at the Instituto do Coração, and at the parties held in his apartment in the capital and in the house preserved inside São Paulo.

On special dates he goes further: he dresses up to cheer up children hospitalized. He has already dressed up as Batman (his favorite superhero) and the pink Easter Bunny. For his dedication to medicine, public health and philanthropy, the doctor has received awards and honors, such as the Institutional Necklace of Merit granted by the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo and the Great Collar of Merit offered by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU).

Despite his commitments in hospitals and in his private practice, the doctor finds time to speak to television stations. On the occasion of his heart transplant, for example, Faustão gave interviews emphasizing the importance of organ donation. On CNN Brasil he hosts the program ‘Sinais Vitais – Dr. Kalil Entrevista’, broadcast on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.

There, they talk about health, lifestyle and there is room for reflection. In a recent edition on longevity, with singer and composer Gilberto Gil and gerontologist Alexandre Kalache, Roberto Kalil, 65, revealed his relationship with inevitable finitude. “I don’t like getting old,” he said. “When they talk about death, I hide under the bed. I’m terrified of death.” Even the super doctor is too human.
