Singer Preta Gil recalled, during the Conversation with Bial this Tuesday 27th what her father, Gilberto Gil, told her in the most difficult phase of treatment against colorectal cancer. The host read an extract from the artist’s autobiography, Preta Gil: The First 50in which she recalls a video conversation she had with Gil while she was in intensive care. The singer said: “Daughter, nature is wise. We are part of it. Let’s return to it. This is part of life.”

Preta Gil laughs and recalls another part of her father’s speech: “If it’s very difficult for you, and if your time has come, accept it.”

“It was amazing for me,” Preta said. “I was in deep shit. I was dying, still in intensive care. It was full red alert. The doctors were saying, ‘He could come out at any moment.'”

The singer recalled that her father also had serious health problems: in 2016, Gil was hospitalized for kidney failure. “He even asked the doctors to stop the treatment, because it was very difficult. I think he put himself in that position,” the singer explains. “That turned a key in my head. It brought me to reality. I said, ‘I don’t want to die, my time has not come!’ And it really worked.”

Preta is currently undergoing a new phase of treatment. Last Sunday, 25, the artist said the disease had “returned in four different places”According to the artist, cancer was detected in two lymph nodes, in the peritoneum – with metastases – and in the ureter – with a nodule.

“I am another Black in 2024. Full of lust for life, with so much energy, with so much love. […] This time I’m really better at dealing with these tumors,” she said. She said she will stay home for 12 days, then return to the hospital and does not intend to stop her work.
