A lawsuit filed by a member of the “City of Lies” film crew accused him of assaulting the set.

Johnny Depp has reached an interim settlement to settle his new lawsuit, filed by a member of the film crew from the film “City of Lies” (2018) who accused him of assaulting the set.
According to court documents filed Monday, Depp negotiated with rental manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks to meet unspecified conditions until the end of August.
Although there is no mention of money, this is implied in the text. “The settlement agreement conditions the conclusion of this process to satisfactory compliance with the specified terms which must be respected within 45 days from the date of signature”, reads the document. “A request for dismissal of the case will be submitted by 01/05/2023”.
The case will be reopened if Depp fails to comply with undisclosed terms.
The trial in the case was to begin on July 25 in Los Angeles.
The revelation of the details of the accusation could shed new light on the actor’s behavior and was also interesting for Amber Heard, who tries to appeal his sentence, after losing a libel case for suggesting that she was a victim of domestic violence. during her marriage to the actor
Brooks filed a lawsuit in June 2018, claiming he was physically assaulted by Depp on the set of “City of Lies” on April 13, 2017, when the star was filming outside the Barclay Hotel in Los Angeles, USA.
According to the complainant, the production could work until 19:00 outside the hotel and 22:00 inside the plant.
Working as a location manager, Brooks was twice granted permission to continue filming longer, as Depp came up with the idea of directing a larger version of the scene with two friends. When the clock struck 11pm, the hotel manager asked the production to leave.
As reported in the lawsuit, he turned to the director, Brad Furman, and broke the bad news, getting a response: “Why don’t you tell Johnny Depp?”.
Brooks claims he tried to get a police officer in charge of production to help him break the news to the actor, but before he could, Depp himself approached him shouting, “Who are you? You have no right to tell me. “what to do”.
After explaining the situation, he would have heard the actor: “I don’t care who you are and you can’t tell me what to do.” As he screamed, Depp would throw two punches at Brooks. She also offered $ 100,000 for him to punch him. In the lawsuit documents, Brooks also claims that Johnny Depp used drugs on set and was drunk while filming, a situation confirmed by a Page Six website witness at the time.
The squad member claims he was fired three days later for refusing to sign a contract asking him not to sue Depp.
In addition to Johnny Depp, he also sued director Brad Furman, producer Miriam Furman, and Good Film Productions company for wrongful dismissal.
Furman even claimed at the time that the incident was exaggerated. “Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, a great collaborator and supporter of other artists,” he said in a statement. “Always treat the crew and the people around him with the utmost respect. Films can be stressful and rare events are often over the top. We all love stories, but there isn’t one here.”
However, this story was considered sufficient for a cause. The negative publicity of the episode also led to the cancellation of the theatrical release of the film. “City of Lies” arrived in Brazil directly on VOD.
In the film, Depp played Russell Poole, a LAPD detective who investigated the murder of rappers Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur in the 1990s and who eventually discovered the involvement of corrupt police officers in the crimes.
The actor even testified on the case in 2019 and claimed to have intervened after seeing Brooks offending an elderly homeless woman on set.
This version of the story was confirmed by the film’s script supervisor Emma Danoff, who said she witnessed the altercation, but that Depp only confronted Brooks after the manager berated a homeless black woman with racial slurs.
“He immediately got up and went to Brooks to defend the woman,” Danoff said. “Mr. Depp said to Mr. Brooks, ‘You can’t talk to her like that. Do you think she’s anything less than you? Who do you think you are? How dare you?’
Danoff also disputed Brooks’ claim that Depp punched him, saying he had a way to prove it never happened.
In this lawsuit, Depp was represented by attorney Camille Vasquez, who became the most popular member of his legal team during the defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.
