Silvio Santos’ best friend criticizes SBT’s management of heiresses: ‘Ego and lack of experience’

Luciano Callegari, 86 years old, former head of SBT and best friend of Silvio Santos (1930-2024), does not consider the management of the Homem do Baú heiresses to be a winning one. For him, “the lack of experience and selfishness are what dictate the future of the station” and this was already evident before Silvio’s death.

“Silvio did not need to die to let us know what the path of SBT will be. Since Silvio stopped participating and his daughters and Iris have led the company, we have seen that lack of experience and ego are what dictate the path of SBT today. SBT. Unfortunately, SBT has stopped being vice-leader at an alarming speed, and the reverse path is much more difficult,” he said in an interview with Folha journalist Mônica Bergamo. “I think there has to be a balance between the brand set by Silvio and modernization. Modernization does not mean destroying the DNA of the company. It is sad to see the path that SBT is taking.”

Callegari and Silvio Santo have worked together for more than 40 years, from when the communicator performed in circuses, then through the creation of SBT and until the late 1990s. During this time, the two became very close friends, spending hours discussing executive decisions and how best to conduct and organize the channel’s programming.

The meeting reportedly had a farewell tone, but was not the topic of the evening.

“My greatest satisfaction was not being Silvio’s best friend, as he said several times. But it was seeing that our families also got along. Anna [mulher de Callegari, já falecida] and Iris always got along very well, we traveled a lot together on vacation in Florida, and my children [Luciano Jr., Mauro, Rodrigo e Rogério] and the girls [filhas de Silvio] They always got along really well too. We were a family like on TV.”
