Mell Muzzillo: Representing Afro-Indigenous Women Is an Act of Resistance

Mel Muzzillo I just said hello to the sensual Ritinha, from Rebornand is ready for new challenges. In an exclusive chat with gshow, complete with a baffic photoshoot, the actress talks about the learning she has gained from her first 9 o’clock soap opera: “Everyone likes to be praised, in a respectful way. But it’s not something that worries me, you know? I think Ritinha has influenced me a lot in this, because she is a free woman, who has done things and they are very different from her and much more reserved”, she comments.

In the interview, Mell also reflects on the importance of diversity on television and how, for her, representing Afro-Indigenous women is an act of resistance. “I want to be there for my people, I want to be there for these kids who saw themselves in me, who were a little lost sometimes wondering, ‘Wow, can I be in this place?’ You can! Believe me! Since I was a kid, I’ve had a lot of racial literacy, thanks to my family, I’ve always been very interested in knowing my heritage and it’s never been a taboo,” she reveals.
