State deputy Renato Machado (PT-RJ) and Bolsonaro supporter Renan Jordy (PL-RJ) argued during an ordinary session of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) this Tuesday 17, after Jordy said he wanted to pay homage to singer Jojo Todynho. The brawl began when the Bolsonaro representative called the PT and PSOL MPs “left-wing claque”, and the PT representative responded by saying he would wait for him “outside”.

Renan Jordy said he would propose awarding Jojo Todynho the Tiradentes Medal, Rio de Janeiro’s highest state honor. The singer recently declared herself “a right-wing black woman,” sparking controversy.

“I would like to offer my solidarity to the artist Jojo Todynho, who has left the ideological slave-holding neighborhoods of the left. PT, PSOL, that leftist group of more love and less hate. They hate everyone who thinks differently, true slave-owners of the 21st century, masters of ingenuity, foremen of those who think differently,” Jordy said during the session.

Machado later asked for respect and challenged Jordy to take the discussion to the street if the issue was personal.

“When you address the ‘claque,’ include me. Respect me. I am a good citizen, a family man, an evangelical pastor and black. If you want to start a personal problem with me, you can do it outside. Wait until I leave, after the plenary session. If you want to talk about people, here are the names of the people in this house, wait for me outside and call me a cheerleader,” the PT member said.

Homage to Jojo Todynho

On Friday the 13th, Jojo took to social media to declare her support for the candidate for city councilor João Branco (PL), whom she considers a “grown-up father”. In addition to campaigning for her friend, she declared that she would vote for Alexandre Ramagem. Over the weekend, she returned to commenting on politics and produced a publication in which she appears alongside João Branco, Ramagem and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro.

The post sparked a wave of criticism on social media. Federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL) wrote: “Traitor. ‘When education is not liberating, the oppressed dream of being oppressors,'” in her Instagram stories, quoting pedagogue Paulo Freire.

Hours later, Jojo went live on her Instagram to respond to the criticism. In the broadcast, she said that her song “Arrasou, faggot” was a “tribute to the LGBT+ community” and not a “raising of the flag.” She later announced that she would remove the song from digital platforms.

Elated, Jojo concluded by saying she was relieved to finally declare herself “a black woman of the right,” and announced that she intends to run for office in 2026.

“What was the flag I raised? Asking for respect is not raising a flag. Respect is everyone’s duty. No one is obliged to please anyone, but respecting everyone is mandatory,” he said.
