Veteran Gretchen released the video for “Fênix do Amor”, a song dedicated to Internet haters.
The artist who earns the most memes in Brazil explained that the title is for all those who need to be reborn on a daily basis: women, LGBTQIA +, blacks, the elderly and anyone else who suffers from discrimination. Her choice to appear with a carnival phoenix, complete with red feathers, tries to reinforce the fact that she “overshadows the haters with her brilliance,” as the lyrics of the song say.
“I see the LGBTQIAP + public, we women, blacks, as excluded from society, but we are the majority that truly forms society. We are reborn from the ashes with so many aggressions, homophobic, racist and social attacks. We are phoenix, we are reborn stronger every day” Gretchen said.
The production is actually a family project. The song was composed by her son, Gabriel Miranda, and the video shows her husband, the musician Esdras de Souza, playing the sax and dancing with the singer in the streets of Belém, Pará, capital of the national electronic brega – a style where “Fênix do Amor” fits perfectly, to the point of sounding a lot like other songs.
By the way, on Wednesday (13/7) the singer came to use social networks to report the attacks she suffered after moving to Belém, claiming to be a victim of xenophobia. The haters are everywhere.
