“I am Amazon,” he announced Fafa de Belém at the opening of the stage on the last day of Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty Festival. In Praça Mauá, in the center of Rio, the artist also criticized the treatment reserved for people from the north of the country: “We are not exotic, we don’t want to be an allegory at anyone’s party.”
Organized by first lady Janja, the event is part of the G20 in Rio de Janeiro. The third and final day of the festival, which has earned the nickname ‘Janjapalooza‘, seemed the least crowded in prime time. With security fences separating the stage and the weather closed in Rio’s capital, the audience was considered smaller and less energetic until 9pm, when Praça Mauá filled with fans singing, in chorus, hits from Alceu Valença and Ney Matogrosso.
From the Amazon to the Gospel
Sustainability is one of the pillars of discussion among global leaders who are part of the G20. From the stage, Fafa vented about negligence towards the people of the Amazon.
“I have carried the name of my land with me for 50 years. What we saw now, the dry river, the river bank with nothing to eat because the fish were already dead. Nature is going crazy because they have gone crazy,” he said, also speaking about the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, Cop30, which will take place in Belém.

On stage, the artist recited a poem in which he repeated, countless times, the phrase: “Building a just world and a sustainable planet”. The audience joined in on the “joke” and started talking together.
Lula spoke at the festival
The moment prepared the public for the arrival of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The PT member’s presence was not surprising, considering the extensive security system established in Praça Mauá. However, he surprised by bringing along an unannounced special guest: Gilberto Gil.
When you go on stage accompanied by the singer, Lula highlighted the importance of turning hunger into a global political issue and thanked the artists and audience for participating in the event. He then underlined that hunger must no longer be treated only as a social issue and must become a global political priority.
“Hunger is not a natural problem, it is the result of the irresponsibility of the planet’s rulers. It takes courage, sensitivity and, above all, humanism to change this reality. We cannot allow a child to die of malnutrition,” he said.
New MPB
Lula left the stage to the shouts of “ciao, ciao” from the fans in the room. The musical awakening was left to the people The young Dionysusa young group, but already with a long curriculum of “Tiktok hits”, such as ‘Acorda Pedrinho’ and ‘Tô Bem’.
The Paraná band passed the baton on stage to TAsia Reis. The artist took the opportunity to ask full scale 6×1topic debated in recent days due to a proposal to amend the Constitution (PEC) signed by the federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP). After the Nova MPB harvest, J. took to the stageeighth. FootLatin Grammy winner Romero Ferro, with a tribute to Luiz Gonzaga and Jaloo.
Ney received an ovation and enthusiasm with ‘Pro dia Nascer Feliz’
Immediately afterwards, the big names of Brazilian music performed in sequence. Maria Gadu he was moved by “Dona Cila” and spoke for the indigenous cause. Alceu Valença came soon after, thrilling the audience with absolute hits, such as “La Belle Du Jour” and “Annunciação”.
If Praça Mauá seemed emptier at 7pm, when the shows began, what was seen in the Pernambuco native’s performance was a “sea” of hands clapping to the rhythm of the songs. Alceo He also took the opportunity to speak: “To every populist who is a traitor to the people. The voice of the people is the voice of God.”
The audience’s excitement increased further with Ney Matogrossowho entered the festival stage shouting “Ney, I love you”. The singer sang “Poema”, a composition by Cazuza‘Balada do Louco’ and ‘Sangue Latino’, accompanied from start to finish by an audience enchanted by his voice.
At the end, as happened in the other two days of the festival, all the artists returned to the stage and sang the song that gives the evening its title: ‘For a day that is born happy’. The closing of the Festival of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty however ended with the cry of “one more”, which is unusual in other evenings of programming.
