“I am Amazon,” he announced Fafa de Belém at the opening of the stage on the last day of Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty Festival. In Praça Mauá, in the center of Rio, the artist also criticized the treatment reserved for people from the north of the country: “We are not exotic, we don’t want to be an allegory at anyone’s party.”

Organized by first lady Janja, the event is part of the G20 in Rio de Janeiro. The third and final day of the festival, which has earned the nickname ‘Janjapalooza‘, seemed the least crowded in prime time. With security fences separating the stage and the weather closed in Rio’s capital, the audience was considered smaller and less energetic until 9pm, when Praça Mauá filled with fans singing, in chorus, hits from Alceu Valença and Ney Matogrosso.

Sustainability is one of the pillars of discussion among global leaders who are part of the G20. From the stage, Fafa vented about negligence towards the people of the Amazon.

“Hunger is not a natural problem, it is the result of the irresponsibility of the planet’s rulers. It takes courage, sensitivity and, above all, humanism to change this reality. We cannot allow a child to die of malnutrition,” he said.

The closing of the Festival of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty however ended with the cry of “one more”, which is unusual in other evenings of programming.
