“Senna” tries, but fails to erase Galisteu’s story

Although from a technical point of view “Senna” represents an undeniable progress in Brazilian audiovisual, the positive points of the series were overshadowed by the controversy involving Adriane Galisteu shortly after its release. This is because, despite focusing on Ayrton Senna’s professional life, the production does not leave his personal life aside. Both his ex-wife, Lilian, and Xuxa, who he dated, won entire episodes about their stories. For the Record presenter, with whom the pilot was dating at the time of his death, less than two minutes have passed.

The Senna family’s antipathy towards Galisteu is public and well known. During the funeral wake she was even denied access to some spaces. According to journalist Flávio Gomes, in an interview for a podcast, on the weekend of the Ímola accident, the driver’s brother even took a dossier on Galisteu shown days before the race and left Senna shaken by the pursuit of his girlfriend. According to Gabriel Leone, protagonist of the series, Galisteu appears little because the script does not focus on the years 1992 and 1993, the period in which the two were dating. Yet, it seems strange to say the least that this is happening at this moment in his past. It’s not fair to Galisteu and those who know the story so well. There is nothing else to prove, all the value of the presenter and her gratitude have already been amply demonstrated. Netflix got it wrong.
