Gloria Pires’ husband updates his health status after the operation

Singer Orlando Morais, husband of actress Gloria Pires, has taken to social media to talk about a jaw surgery he underwent to treat sleep apnea.

In the video he appears wearing a black surgical mask and immediately explains to his followers: “This is not a costume!”

He says that the crises related to the disease intensified and, therefore, he underwent the surgery. He also said he will have to undergo another surgery.

The singer was next to the dentist Giselle Elias, who explained what was done to the jaw of Gloria Pires’ husband: “He widened the jaw. With this we release the jaws. In the second phase, an advancement will be made in both jaws.”

In the comments, the musician received solidarity from colleagues and celebrities. Minister Margareth Menezes, for example, wished him a good recovery. Orlando also received public expressions of affection from Glória, her stepdaughter Cleo Pires and her daughter Ana Morais.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is characterized by partial or total interruption of airflow during sleep, resulting in breathing pauses that can last a few seconds to minutes and repeat several times during the night.

These interruptions occur when the upper airway collapses (obstructive apnea, in Orlando’s case) or due to a failure in the brain’s control of breathing (central apnea), and in some cases can be combined.

This problem can lead to sleep fragmentation, daytime drowsiness, difficulty concentrating and an increased risk of diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Diagnosis is made via polysomnography, and treatment may include lifestyle changes, the use of devices such as CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure), or surgery, depending on the severity.
