On the verge of turning 100, the Golden Globe has faced significant challenges in recent years, having been accused of boycotting foreign films, favoring North American productions in exchange for gifts, trips and luxury items, as well as being accused of a lack of representation in its electoral body. In 2022 the award was canceled due to these and other criticisms, which led to changes to the structure of the event.

Who votes at the Golden Globes?

THE Golden Globe is promoted by Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA, its acronym in English). Until recently the institution consisted of around 90 journalists responsible for choosing the winners. In 2021, it emerged that some voters accepted gifts and favors from celebrities and producers, which led to a makeover.

After the event’s absence in 2022, the HFPA has undergone profound changes. Members involved in the controversies were removed and new journalists from 55 countries were included in the voting group.
