The journalist’s debauchery could further sour Gusttavo Lima’s relationship with Globo

“Who is Gusttavo Lima?”, asked commentator Demétrio Magnoli on GloboNews’ “Estúdio i”, after learning of his intention to run for the presidency of the Republic in 2026.

“One of the greatest country singers in Brazil,” explained host Andréia Sadi. The lack of knowledge of the artist – or the irony in pretending not to know him – sparked laughter among colleagues on the programme.

“…I still don’t know who Gustavo Lima is and I’d rather not know,” the news channel’s most controversial political analyst insisted.

The singer nicknamed ‘ambassador’ reacted. “I am the people, I am the citizen, the taxpayer who supports the entire machine called Brazil,” he wrote in Instagram Stories.

From his response, Gusttavo seems to have been irritated by Magnoli’s contempt. This episode could worsen his already complicated relationship with Globo.

There was an attempt at rapprochement last year, but the broadcaster’s coverage of Operation Integration, the illicit exploitation of games, which led to his arrest, created a new distance.

After an article in ‘Fantástico’ which highlighted the alleged involvement of his compatriot, Gusttavo Lima criticized the Marinho family channel on a social network. “Reputational assassination,” he wrote. In another post he used the terms “injustice” and “fake news”.
