Actress Fernanda Torres, winner of the Golden Globe last Sunday, was praised by the English teacher known for giving language advice on social media, Felipe Coelho. He posted a video in which he stated that the artist’s pronunciation was “impeccable”.

The actress spoke after being awarded best dramatic actress for her impeccable performance as Eunice Paiva, in I’m still here. The film directed by Walter Salles tells the story of Eunice Paiva and her struggle after the death of her husband, former deputy Rubens Paiva, during the military dictatorship.

“I want to dedicate this award to my mother. You have no idea! She was here twenty-five years ago. This is proof that art lasts in life even in the difficult times that Eunice Paiva went through. With so many problems in today’s world, so afraid, this is a film that helped us think about how to survive in times like these,” he said during the awards ceremony.

The teacher talked about Fernanda’s accent and highlighted her fluency during speech.

“Guys, this is serious. Nobody speaks Fernanda Torres’ English? Generally, Brazilians who speak apparently without an accent or with a slight accent are praised, which is not the case with Fernanda. He has his own accent, which is neither American nor British, or a mix of the two with Brazilian, but this does not compromise the care he puts into pronunciation. Even with the accent, his pronunciation is impeccable,” he points out.

According to the professor, Fernanda demonstrates that having an accent is not an obstacle to being understood and admired by people of another nationality. Coelho also underlines that the actress has what in English is defined as “a good command of the Language”, that is, the mastery of the language with fluency and confidence.

“He conjugates verbs correctly, uses complex grammatical structures and demonstrates excellent knowledge of the English language,” he emphasizes.

Another note is that the award-winning artist conveys her depth, despite not speaking English as her native language, without getting lost in literal translations or possible insecurities.

“He also has what we call ‘poise’ in English, which is an elegance combined with self-confidence, poise, he speaks English with a lot of class, with a lot of ease.”

For him, Fernanda is an example to follow for those who are learning English, demonstrating that the language does not need to be spoken like a native speaker, it is enough to communicate with precision and authenticity. “What he does divinely.
