“Gambling and drug addiction are practically the same thing, only the thing changes (…) Addiction is the same, only the product itself changes. It’s very similar for you to stop and get back up. You can’t compare with suffering. But it is very similar (…) The person goes through a process of withdrawal from gambling. It’s similar to drugs. As if it were drugs, but drugs are the game“, he clarifies.

“In some cases, addiction takes time to manifest. And for me it was this: when these things started with betting, with a betting house, I started advertising, so that my followers could play, for a betting house. So I started advertising, I spent a year, two years just advertising. I didn’t gamble because my father… I already had problems in my family due to gambling. And then one day I went to play. I joined these betting groups [esportivas] then I placed a small bet for R$100 and won R$9,000. I said, ‘Damn. I bet R$100 and won R$9,000.’ I said, ‘Wow. This is what I want. Right. In 2 hours I earned R$9,000. Damnation’. And then it started, right? I started putting in a little more, started playing, then started playing other games, tiger games, live roulette, baccarat, craps. I started to gamble everything, because I won a little here, a little there, I won in one, I lost in the other“, he adds.

The former participant in the Globo reality show clarifies that he understood that the bets, which were no longer placed only on sports groups, were going beyond the limits. “When I realized I was losing control was when I was addicted and spent my nights playing. I started losing a lot of money. And wherever I went, my cell phone was already on, betting. I went to the mall with my family, I was having lunch, whatever I did, I was engrossed in the game. That’s how I knew the addiction had really begun“, we read.

The former BBB explains that he didn’t immediately have the motivation to tackle his addiction, but that he noticed his change in behavior when he stayed up all night just to go online and play gambling games. “I ended up taking money from where I wasn’t supposed to take it, taking money from commitments and in the end my wife Fran couldn’t handle it; And then he asked for a separation, we left, we got rid of the house“, he confesses.

The couple, who began their relationship during BBB 14, were separated for a month, but decided to get back together in December of this year. “And then during this time that I lived with my mother, I ended up reflecting and I said, ‘Wow, I want to know? I think I have to get it out, you know?’ For me it was a way to also help me recover from not playing, you know? Sometimes it makes me want to play, right? Even today there is a desire to play. When I see the match on television, however, I think that was the motivation. In fact, my motivation was to help me fight this. It helped me a lot to combat this“, explains.

The former Power Couple Brasil participant explains that he didn’t analyze whether talking to his followers would be beneficial or not, he just understood that he could share a moment of weakness with his fans. Despite this, Diego Grossi does not hide the numerous problems he has had to face due to his gambling addiction.

“I’ve more or less hit rock bottom. I lost my wife, I lost my house, I lost my money, I lost my motorbike, in short I lost many things. And it was when I found myself alone during this period that I said: ‘Man, I’m addicted’ (…) And it was difficult, a bit like that, to seek help, because I thought it wasn’t the game. My mental and emotional health went to hell, it was basically nothing. I lost everything. Then I entered a period of depression. I became very depressed, lost weight and stopped working out. I didn’t want to be Diego anymore, you know? I didn’t want it anymore, Diego. I wanted to be that other person (…) Even today I suffer a little from this mental and emotional health that I am healing little by little. Today I undergo psychopsychiatric treatment, today I take drugs. So I admitted that I am addicted to gambling and can’t gamble“, he concludes.
