The actress who played Cuca in Globo and who was arrested for killing her husband turns 96

A yesteryear TV star turned 96 on January 21. Dorinha Duval is among the country’s longest-lived artists, along with Fernanda Montenegro, Lima Duarte, Laura Cardoso, Othon Bastos, Berta Loran and a few others.

The actress lives in isolation, away from the spotlight. In recent decades he has dedicated himself to pictorial painting. His last video appearance was a brief participation in 2006’s ‘Belíssima’, recalling his days as a revue theater star.

His career was cut short by tragedy. In the early hours of October 5, 1980, she shot her husband, the publicist Paulo Sérgio Alcântara, to whom she had been married for six years, three times. He was rescued, but did not survive.

Taken to the dock, Dorinha Duval claimed self-defense. She said she was constantly humiliated by her husband. He, 16 years younger, allegedly called her “old, ugly, fat” several times and flirted with other women.

After the annulment of the first trial, the artist was subjected to a new jury. Sentenced to six years, she served nine months in a semi-open regime. He regained his freedom, but was unable to return to television. The stigma of being an ex-convict was stronger than the fame she had earned for her talent.

Dorah Teixeira was born on January 21, 1929 in Sao Paulo. Encouraged by her family, she became a dancer in casinos and a nightclub singer. Beautiful and charismatic, she was a famous star. He had men at his feet. She became a radio soap opera actress. Soon the invitations to television appeared. At Globo he participated in historical soap operas, such as ‘Irmãos Coragem’.

She gained national recognition in the role of one of the Cajazeiras sisters in ‘O Bem-Amado’. In 1977, she was asked to wear an alligator costume to participate in a new children’s program. She accepted. And so, at the age of 48, Dorinha Duval gave birth to the first Cuca of ‘Sítio do Picapau Amarelo’.

Immediate success. But the actress did not return for the second season. He preferred to seek new challenges. He appeared in the episode “O Homem que came from Brás” of the series “Plantão de Policia”, becoming his last work in front of the camera before the crime that changed his life.

Dorinha was married for 10 years to the director and actor Daniel Filho, with whom she had her only daughter, the actress Carla Daniel, known for her role as the maid Zulmira in “Alma Gêmea”.
