Marta Maria de Castro also wishes to recover the objects left by her son Flávio de Castro Sousa

As if the pain of losing her only son wasn’t enough, nursing technician Marta Maria de Castro is now fighting to bring the remains of Flávio de Castro Sousa to Brazil.

He created an online raffle to raise money to pay for cremation and shipping of the ashes. The column explored the body incineration service in some funeral homes in Paris. On average it costs 800 euros, around R$5,000.

Each lottery number is sold for R$20. The raffle prize will be a Oggi professional bicycle worth R$8,000, according to the campaign release. The draw is scheduled for April 25th. (Link at the end of the text.)

“All help is essential so that my family and I can bring my son’s body to his last farewell with his family,” writes Marta Maria, a resident of the interior of Minas Gerais.

He also wants to pay for the shipping of the two suitcases left by the photographer, with clothes, photographic equipment and personal items, such as the recovered cell phone.

Flávio de Castro Souza, known professionally as Flávio Carrilho, was found dead on a stretch of the Seine north of Paris after 45 days missing. Drowning is listed as the probable cause of death. He was 36 years old.

He arrived in town on November 1st to photograph a friend’s wedding and enjoy a few days of vacation. He was supposed to return to Brazil on the 26th to resume his routine in Belo Horizonte, where he lived and was a partner in a photographic company.

In the early hours of that day, he informed his friends that he had fallen into the Seine. He was treated for hypothermia and taken to hospital. He was discharged, but missed the flight. He managed to extend his stay in the rented apartment until he was able to plan a new departure.

Surveillance cameras showed that on the night of the 27th the photographer left the place alone. He threw his cell phone into a potted plant in front of a restaurant and headed towards the river. He remained on the sidelines for some time. Then his image disappeared.

Programs such as ‘Fantástico’ (Globo) and ‘Domingo Espetacular’ (Record) broadcast articles about the case.
