With 12 years of law and more than a decade of services in the area of gender violence and family law, the lawyer shares his trajectory to overcome and strengthen women
Next Friday (16/5), criminal lawyer and family law specialist, Dr. Joanne Annunciation, will hold a lesson on the struggle of women against domestic violence. Its theme will focus on the identification of illegal relationships, on the strategies to break the cycle of violence and ways for emotional overcoming. The lesson takes place on the eve of the completion of a year of an episode of gender violence from which the professional herself was a victim.
In July 2024, Joanne suffered an attempted femicide. The striker set fire to the furniture of his apartment, in an episode that deeply marked his life and professional performance. Although this fact was a watershed, his dedication to the cause of women is not recent. “He worked for about 10 years with cases of domestic violence, but living this personal experience made me see, even more deeply, the urgency of strengthening this struggle and expanding the range of awareness”.
Dr. Joanne Annunciation lived an attempt at femicide
Although he has already participated in numerous victims during his career, Joanne stresses that violence does not choose the level of knowledge or preparation. “I want all women to understand that, even an expert, it can end up crossing the people who have traces of narcissism, sociopathy or psychopathy. And despite the pain and destruction caused, it is possible to reconstruct. It is possible to reconstruct. And this is what pushes me to teach and strengthen other women every day.”
According to her, it all started with the desire to form a family. “I was very focused on work and personal life, but I started to ask me. Five months passed until the start of the appointments. It went to my house, we made a wedding with a total separation of the goods and traveled to celebrate. On the way back, everything changed.”
The partner’s behavior quickly became a controller. “When you need it, the person doesn’t support you.” In one of the episodes, the ex even requested a luxury car. The end, therefore, was the fuse of violence: “As soon as he saw that it was a real end, he entered my apartment, gives fire and made me a sensation in life”.
Overcoming as a mission
Joanne believes that the main objective should not only be identifying offensive features, but also learning to break the cycles and save emotional autonomy. “You can be the most intelligent human being in the world, he will deceive you.”
From this experience a new purpose was born: in addition to the legal performance, the lawyer offers tutoring and guides the Women’s School of Law, an initiative that combines legal practice and reception, focused on women’s formation.
