Rede Globo renews an important contract for another 4 years

The partnership between Globo and Unesco for the baby’s Esperança project was renewed and will continue in force until 2029. The announcement of the agreement was made on Friday (20 June), during a ceremony in Paris, France, with the presence of representatives of the two institutions.

The collaboration between organizations began in 2004 and since then UNESCO has been responsible for managing the resources collected during the countryside. The United Nations Agency (a) operates in the selection of beneficial social projects and in the distribution of values for the different regions of Brazil.

According to the Pop TV website, João Roberto Marinho, president of Grupo Globo, was present at the event, accompanied by the station managers, such as Cristovam Ferrara, director of the social value, and Leonora Bardini, executive director. Unesco, Audrey Azoulay, general manager of the institution, and Marlova Rental, representative of the agency in Brazil, participated.

During its four decades of existence, Criança Esperança assigned over 460 million dollars for about 6,000 social and educational projects. As Cristovam Ferrara said, UNESCO’s participation in the administration of resources is essential to guarantee the credibility of the process. “It is a fundamental partnership because, in practice, UNESCO is that it manages all the resources we have collected with the Brazilian population. Therefore, they select the projects and distribute resources. This obviously guarantees all the quality of UNESCO, the credibility of UNESCO in the distribution of the funds raised,” he said.

In fact, Audrey Azoulay underlined the social impact generated by the initiative over the years. “Criança Esperança allows us to mobilize the entire society, because people make donations, see what happens, sees our projects together and this promotes the rise of young people from the projects we have selected,” said the general manager of UNESCO.

In turn, Marlova Rental also celebrated the renewal of the agreement, underlining the benefits brought to young Brazilians. “The renewal of the UNESCO partnership agreement with TV Globo will allow us to continue supporting social projects throughout Brazil. A beautiful Brazil, which promotes opportunities, enhances people and transforms life,” he said. According to the data released by Globo, over five million children were affected directly by the actions of Criança Esperança.
