Niterói academics will make its debut in the special group of Rio de Janeiro Carnival in 2026 with a plot focused on the trajectory of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. After winning the title of the gold series, the school prepares a parade that aims to turn to the humble son of Lula in the north -est upon its arrival in the presidency of the Republic.
The theme chosen brings the title “From Alto do Mulungu the Hope: Lula, the worker of Brazil”. The proposal will be developed by the carnival Tiago Martins in collaboration with the entrepreneur Igor Ricardo. The narrative should highlight the surprising episodes of the president’s life, focusing on the union struggle, workers and political ascent. The choice of Mulungu, a typical agresta tree, refers to the childhood of the honorable and acts as a starting point for the symbolic construction of the plot.
The choice of the president as a central character of the presentation caused repercussions for having had an electoral year. Lula, who could contest the re -election in 2026, will be portrayed at Marquis de Sapucí in a moment of intense political polarization. However, the experts listened to by the press vehicles consider that there are no legal impediments for the tribute, since the parade does not have direct links with the election campaign.
The official announcement was made on Wednesday (9 July), through the social networks of the school. In the publication, the Carnival explained the meaning of the title and justified the choice of the presidential figure. “Telling the story of the life of a boy who leaves the north -est, he arrives in the great metropolis, acquires political awareness, leads several strikes and becomes the first president of the Republic without a diploma in Brazil,” said Tiago Martins in a statement published by the Association.
This is the first time that Lula’s trajectory will be the subject of a parade in the special group of Rio de Janeiro. The school will open the elite fashion shows of the Carioca Carnival Sunday (February 15), as required by the independent League of the Samba schools (Liese). The synopsis and the official logo of the plot should be released in early August.
Despite the political discussions on the subject, the project is seen internally as an appreciation of the personal overcoming of Lula and the social trajectory. The plot is treated as a narrative of hope and transformation, values that, according to the school council, dialogue with the artistic proposal of Niterói academics.
The choice inserts the Niteriese school in a Rio Carnival tradition to honor historical characters, both of popular culture, social activism or national politics.
