UFC Randy Couture suffers an accident and is hospitalized

One of the most emblematic names of the UFC, Randy Couture suffered a serious accident last Tuesday (8 July), while training on a racing track in the Kansas City region in the United States. The former 62 -year -old champion had to be brought by helicopter to a medical center specialized in burns, where he remains hospitalized under observation and continuous care.

The accident occurred during couture preparations for its official debut at the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the main American Drag Racing organization. He had trained to compete in the Pro Mod category, with highly modified vehicles, similar to road cars, but designed to reach extreme speeds.

As reported international vehicles, the Vaterano of the MAMA has suffered from first and high school burns, as well as physical trauma and inhalation of smoke. Although the severity of the situation required urgent medical intervention, sources close to the former fighter indicated an optimistic expectation for complete recovery of the United States.

The change of environment was not unexpected for fashion, which was intensely dedicated to the new mode. He too came to postpone his first official race, initially scheduled for June, supporting the need to acquire more experience on the track before competing. The decision aimed to preserve not only his security, but also that of the other participants.

Recognized by the historical results of UFC, Couture was champion in the heavy half -categories (up to 93 kg) and maximum weights (up to 120.2 kg), being the only one to recover a belt three times after loss. At 43, he became the oldest champion in the history of the organization. Because of his career, his name has been included in the UFC Hall of Fame.

After the retreat, in 2011, he remained active in the universe of the fighting, both as a coach, owner of the Xtreme Couture Academy of Las Vegas, commentator of the PFL or Hollywood Productions actor, such as the “The Mercenaries” franchise.

The information on the accident was initially released by the TMZ sports portal and subsequently confirmed by other sources related to sport. It is not yet known exactly what caused the accident, but Couture’s clinical condition remains stable, according to the last bulletins.

“Despite the fear, there is the trust that Randy will have a complete recovery,” said people close to the athlete, in a statement to Mma Junkie.
