Britney Spears and Elton John Duet is official

Britney Spears’ first song after six years without recording was made official on Monday (8/8).

Two weeks after press reports, Universal Music’s Interscope Records announced the recording of “Hold Me Closer”, a duet with Elton John that recreates “Tiny Dancer”, the British musician’s 1971 hit.

Elton John echoed the confirmation on his Instagram, posting the song title and two emojis: a rocket (representing him) and a rose (representing Britney). But there are no other confirmed official details.

According to Page Six, who broke the scoop two weeks ago, the recording was produced by Grammy winner Andrew Watt, who has worked with artists as diverse as Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Pearl Jam and Ozzy Osbourne.

Apparently, Elton John has decided to repeat the hit of “Cold, Cold Heart”, a mashup of the hits “Rocket Man” and “Sacrifice”, which he re-recorded in a duet with Dua Lipa last year. This new version has become one of the most played on the dance floor in recent months.

“Tiny Dancer” was part of the album “Madman Across the Water” (1971) and its release as a single in 1972 reached number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song has grown in stature over the years and is now considered one of the singer’s best classic hits.

The collaboration is the first indication that Spears intends to return to music without her father’s tutelage, which ended in November 2021.

Since her newfound freedom, fans have wondered if Britney would resume her career, as she released statements indicating she intended to stay away from music, after feeling like a slave, forced by her father to record and perform.

Until this recording, her greatest act since the end of her tenure as a conservative had been her marriage to her boyfriend Sam Asghari, with whom she had expressed a desire to have children.

There is no release date scheduled for “Hold Me Closer” yet.
