Warner Bros. The discovery came in defense of writer JK Rowling after the creator of Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts movies received a death threat from an Islamic extremist on Twitter.
The threat was made on Saturday (13/8) in response to a post by Rowling expressing her horror at the violent attack suffered the day before by Salman Rushdie.
A user identified as Meer Asif Aziz, who in his Twitter bio describes himself as a “student, social activist, political activist and researcher”, tweeted to the writer: “Don’t worry, you’re next.”
Following the comment, Rowling publicly urged Twitter officials to take action against the threat. “Twitter, any support possibilities?” wrote the author, informing her that she would go to the police.
In an official statement, Warner Bros. Discovery condemned the threats and defended freedom of expression. In the text, the study also wishes Salman Rushdie a speedy recovery.
“Warner Bros. Discovery strongly condemns the threats made against JK Rowling. We stand with her and all authors, storytellers and creators who boldly express their creativity and opinions. WBD believes in free speech, peaceful speech and those who offer their views in the public arena, “the text reads.
“Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family after the senseless act of violence in New York. The company strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation in which opinions, beliefs and thoughts may differ,” adds the declaration.
Rowling was grateful for the support of everyone who came to her defense, but many also pointed out that she herself is an extremist because of her aggressive social media posts against transgender rights.
