Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John (“Grease”) returned to the charts a week after her death. According to Variety magazine, Newton-John starring music and video consumption increased by a staggering 614%.

In all, the number of Newton-John video and music plays on various streaming services was 11,267,494 in one week. The numbers become even more impressive when we realize that the weekly calculation ended on Thursday (8/11), which is just three days after the actress’s death.

In the previous week, Newton-John had 1,577,978 flows on demand. It is worth noting that while the current numbers are exorbitant, the previous numbers weren’t bad, all the more so when we take into account that the last time Olivia Newton-John was topping the charts was in the 1980s.

His broadcast that aired that week had a 1481% percentage increase. It went from 382,500 weekly song plays to 6,048,300.

This also boosted sales, which went from 241 albums sold the week before to 5,836 the following week, an increase of 2135%. However, sales are not important in the streaming age.

Interestingly, sales of the “Grease” soundtrack rose by “only” 231% (with a total of 8,418,675 plays), relatively fewer than the singer’s other albums. But that’s not a demerit of the film’s soundtrack, just an indication that people were listening to the album even before Olivia’s death.
